Donny Nie is a Chinese-Canadian painter and interdisciplinary artist. She holds a BFA from OCAD University, and an MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Nie has participated in solo and group exhibitions in Canada, the United States, China, and Japan. She was a Visiting Assistant Professor at the University of North Texas (2022–2024). She is currently an Assistant Professor of Art at Knox College.
From oil painting, monotype, digital projection, to ceramic and glass form, the alchemy of Nie's artwork exemplifies a state of proximity to commemorate potentials in living. She is driven by an obsession with transparency as a metaphor, to pick up and dissolve invisible boundaries. The artworks materialize a desire to archive, control, and situate within progression.
